SEWM is awarded the Social Enterprise Mark
6 April, 2011SEWM CIC is the first ‘new-start’ social enterprise to be awarded the Social Enterprise Mark in the West Midlands.
The Social Enterprise Mark is the national identifier and brand for social enterprise. Recent changes to the qualification criteria for the Mark mean that new start businesses can now apply.
As the business network for social enterprise, SEWM CIC incorporated as a community interest company in February although it has been operating since 2007.
The decision to become a social enterprise in its own right has seen the introduction of a new membership offer, a suite of new consultancy services and the soon to be launched www.buySe.co.uk – the national social enterprise directory.
SEWM was presented with the Social Enterprise Mark at the Voice11 conference in London. Kevin Maton, Network Director said:
“I am really honoured that SEWM CIC has been awarded the Social Enterprise Mark. We have long been advocate for the Mark, and now like many of our members, we too can display our social enterprise credentials – demonstrating we are a company with strong values towards people and the planet.”
Lucy Findlay, Chief Executive of the Social Enterprise Mark said:
“It’s fantastic that the Mark is now available to new-start social enterprises of which we’re seeing many more come to life in a range of sectors and industries. As a result the social enterprise community is growing at a fast rate. With the Mark as a badge they’ll be easily identifiable to those they want to do business with, whether customers or commissioners.”
There are over 30 Mark holders in the West Midlands. For more information about the Social Enterprise Mark visit www.socialenterprisemark.org.uk.
