School for Social Entrepreneurs – Midlands (SSE Midlands)
The School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) is the original social enterprise academy, founded in 1997 by Michael Young who also founded The Open University, The Consumers Association, Which? Reports and over 40 other education and social enterprises.
SSE Midlands launched in September 2013 and joins a growing global network of schools across the UK, Ireland, Australia and Canada.
SSE’s mission is to address inequalities and social exclusion by supporting social entrepreneurs from all backgrounds to transform their talent into real social outcomes, in the form of sustainable solutions to poverty and disadvantage in communities. It does this through the use of action-learning based programmes of personal and organisational development.
The SSE Fellowship programmes are delivered by a combination of:
- Witness Testimonies from experienced social entrepreneurs
- Expert input on key business topics
- Peer to peer learning delivered in group sessions
- Action Learning sets where groups of entrepreneurs meet to discuss real time issues and challenges
- Mentoring from commercial partners and experience entrepreneurs
- Project visits to see other social enterprises in operation
- One to one coaching and support from SSE staff
- Networking with access to several hundred other Fellows of SSE across the globe
