SE Business Support: It is Scotland that leads the way?

By Kevin Maton, SEWM Network Director

Clearly there are real advantages for social enterprises in Scotland from being independent of the very muddled thinking about specialist business support we are suffering from in England. As the press release below shows, a collaborative approach based on existing knowledge and expertise has been followed to ensure that there is a real joined-up approach that meets the needs of the sector. We have two articles in the latest ‘Se’ Magazine (to be published July 2011) that explain the real concerns about the availability of support and advice services for social enterprise in the West Midlands. Certainly, we can only look towards colleagues in Scotland with some degree of envy as they benefit from a much more enlightened approach being pursued by the Scottish Government.
