Massage and Morals - Go Wellbeing CIC
Posted on 26 September 2014
Pupils at a Kidderminster Primary School were awarded prestigious trophies at the end of the summer term, as part of a Values Programme supported by Go Wellbeing CIC
Wolverley Sebright Primary School introduced the Programme two years ago.
Each month staff and pupils focus on a different core value, such as kindness, tolerance, respect and honesty. Children are taught the importance of these and implement them as part of their daily school life.
To help develop children’s moral and emotional wellbeing the school also introduced the Massage in Schools Programme in 2012, supported by award-winning therapist Donna Davis, from Go Wellbeing. The MISP encourages learning through touch activities and by creating massage stories which can be linked to curriculum topics. Proven benefits include encouraging mutual respect; increased social inclusion and empathy.
“Parents want to instil a strong sense of morality in their children to prepare them to become good citizens,” says Donna Davis. “I work with a variety of schools which support and reinforce what children learn at home. Such schools are taking a wonderfully proactive approach to ensure traditional values are not forgotten in the busy world we all live in.”
Every month Wolverley Sebright selects a values ambassador from each year group and their achievements are formally recognized at a celebratory assembly. At the end of the school year staff chose three overall winners, who each receive a trophy – sponsored by Go Wellbeing.
This year’s values winners were Max Rose (age 5), Jack Harris (age 7) and Harry Homer (age 10). They were each awarded a trophy at a Prize Giving event on July 18.
