Social Enterprise Mark goes National
03/02/2010
On 1 February, the long awaited Social Enterprise Mark was launched nationally in Cardiff at Voice10, the annual conference for social enterprise.
Voice is organised by the Social Enterprise Coalition. In its sixth year, Voice this year saw the new CEO, Peter Holbrook calling for change.
In this speech at Voice on Monday, Peter said: “We want to see big changes; we want commitment to grow our sector from 1% of GDP to 3% GDP, a 300% growth in 10 years. We would like to see the right to request to be extended from the Department of Health to as many other government departments as possible.”
At the conference people were encouraged to apply for the Social Enterprise Mark and to visit the stand where they could talk to SEC members and find out more about the Mark.
Peter went on to discuss his aims in his new role. “Listening and learning and meeting as many of you as is possible is going to be my first priority. It’s through visiting the English regions and the UK nations, by visiting social enterprises and support bodies, it is by talking to our members and the wider sector that we will create an agenda that really represents our movement. The coalition will be dynamic, enterprising, diverse, collaborative and empowering, many of the values that you find in national occupational standards of community development, something that is very dear to my heart.”
