WM Social Enterprise Ambassador Announced
15/10/2007
Jean Jarvis, Chief Executive of South Shropshire Furniture Scheme has been announced as one of 25 national Social Enterprise Ambassadors by the Cabinet Office.
Over the next three years the Ambassadors will be raising awareness of social enterprise amongst key professionals and attract new entrants to the movement across the UK.
“When I first heard about the initiative, I thought what a great idea – I’d love to be part of it. I know first hand how little understanding of social enterprise there is from my experience at the Furniture Scheme. I’m thrilled to have been selected. The process so far has been really enjoyable and I’m looking forward to what lies ahead.”
The South Shropshire Furniture Scheme was started in 1994 to address a growing need to find a way to reuse and recycle unwanted household items. Since then more that 12,000 people have donated household items, and around 2,500 families and individuals have benefited.
One of Jean’s first appearances in her new role will be at the West Midlands Social Enterprise Convention, to be held on 29 January 2008 in Dudley.
Professor John Mawson, Chair of Social Enterprise West Midlands said:
“On behalf of the Network, I would like to congratulate Jean. She can count on our support and we wish her every success during this exciting period.”
